Things you need to bring to a session:
1. two forms of ID--one with a photo on it. such as a state driver's license and one,
such as a birth certificate, social security card, or other form of ID
The VE team has to be satisfied that the applicant has positively been identified. If you think you might have trouble with this be sure to contact the VE team leader beforehand. It would be bad to drive all the way to a test session and not have the correct forms of ID and not get to take the test.
2. originals and photocopies of your amatuer license if you have one. Be sure to bring a photocopy as well as the original one. Some places may be able to make a copy but some may not. If you have a CSCE bring the original plus a photocopy. The photocopies are to be attached to the form 605 which is your application to take the test and cannot be returned to you because they must become a permanent part of the application.
3. a social security number or FRN number Effective August, 1999, all applicants for renewal , upgrade, or new amatuer radio license must submit their social security number or their FRN FCC registration number. If you hold any FCC license you may or may not have a FRN number, check on the FCC website to find out for sure. If you have a FRN number please use it instead of a social security number. If you don't have a FRN number your social security number will do. Non citizens and foreign aliens are not eligible to apply for a social security number and should first obtain a FRN number from the FCC website. If you wish not to use your social security number on an amateur radio license application, you may apply and receive a FRN number on the FCC website. VEs can not administer a test to anyone who doesn't provide a FRN or social security number.
Things you do not bring to session:
Paper, notebooks, or study guides Most VE teams provide pencils and pens as well as scratch paper. Having an unauthorized piece of paper or materials in the testing area could be cause for immediate failure of the test. You can use calculators, but they must be checked by a VE before testing begins. Failure to have this done could be grounds for immediate failure of the test.
I hope this helps you on test day. Good luck on taking the test!!!
